A new track for Psycho Starship Rampage
So! As the game approaches release, so does the soundtrack (once I have signed all distribution rights) and I am very pleased to introduce you another sneak peek of a brand new track for the game, called Mega Tribute :
Why this title? Well, in many ways, Psycho Starship Rampage pays homage to the shmups of old (R-Type, Gradius…) while making that gameplay modern with the roguelike aspects. These are games with which I grew up as a kid, then a teenager, and I have always seen the soundscape of Psycho Starship Rampage as both a renewal and a continuation of that tradition. That track is the embodiement of that, paying respect to the spirit of these old, epic soundtracks.
It also is, in many ways, the core theme of the game; it will be found in a completely different, orchestral form in the opening title track, and variations of it are scattered throughout the whole game soundtrack. It had a lot of fun hiding these bits and pieces here and there and calling on the listener’s unconscious memory from track to track.
Stay tuned for more sneak peeks to come! By the end of the week, I will be entering a professional studio for some external mastering, as I do not think I have enough perspective on that soundtrack to do an adequate job myself. Things are well underway, and remember: Psycho Starship Rampage is out on Sep. 28!
